Shocking revelations about huge, potentially fraudulent, expenses claims by Gosport MP Sir Peter Viggers finally became public in the Daily Telegraph. Tory leader David Cameron was reportedly deeply embarassed by this grimy exposure of yet another close fellow multi-millionaire. So damaging is the news that Viggers was ordered to relinquish his seat at the next election - or have the Conservative whip removed. Why not now ?

The paper said that Sir Peter, claimed £2,000 for a duck island. He also claimed £20,000 on gardening. A Conservative scrutiny panel will decide what figure Sir Peter will have to pay back. Sources say it will be a "substantial sum".

Constituents in Gosport, Stubbington and Hillhead have expressed outrage that years of rumours about their MP's greed have been momentously confirmed. Further disclosures will follow, including details of Sir Peter's extra incomes beyond his bloated Parliamentary claims during three decades of Tory incumbancy. Many are asking why he should continue until the General Election as a dead-duck parliamentarian.  Should he leave with a £60,000 golden goodbye !

Local Conservatives have known about Peter Viggers extravagence for years without acting on allegations. It's time for root and branch examination and radical reforms to Borough, County and National politics. This sleaze and abuse of power demands new transparency and new elected representatives now. People with vision, proven integrity and courage, who believe in public service not self service, are urgently needed. Gosport people have been let down and left out for too long. If Sir Peter has any honour left he must do one right thing without delay, resign immediately, refuse to accept his golden goodbye, and let us remove the stench of this 35 year Tory scandal.
